Cookies

This page explains what cookies and similar technologies are used on maskedgames.com, why they are used, and how you can control them. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy.

What Cookies Are

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store. It lets a site remember something between page loads — for example that you already dismissed a notice. Similar technologies such as local storage work the same way but store the data in your browser rather than sending it back with every request.

Do You Need to Accept Cookies to Play?

No. The games themselves run without any cookie you have to accept. Essential storage is used to keep the site working, and everything else is optional.

What We Use

1. Strictly necessary

These keep the site functioning and cannot be switched off from within the site.

  • Session cookie — issued by our server to keep your request context consistent while you browse.
  • Consent record — remembers that you have seen and answered the cookie notice, so it is not shown again on every page.
  • Local storage: recently played — the "Recently Played" list is kept in your own browser. It never reaches our server, and clearing your browser data removes it.

2. Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand which games and pages are used, roughly where visitors come from, and which devices they use. This tells us which games to keep and which pages to fix. The data is aggregated; we do not use it to identify individual people.

3. Advertising

The site is free because it is funded by advertising. Our advertising partners may set cookies to limit how often you see the same advertisement, to measure whether an advertisement worked, and — where you have consented — to make advertising more relevant. Current partners:

  • Google AdSense — display advertising on desktop pages.
  • AdinPlay — the short video advertisement that may play before a game starts.

These partners are independent of us and act as their own data controllers. Their handling of data is governed by their own policies: Google advertising.

4. Push notifications

We use OneSignal for optional browser notifications about new games. This only activates if you explicitly allow notifications in your browser prompt. If you ignore or dismiss that prompt, nothing is stored.

What We Do Not Do

  • We do not sell your personal data.
  • We do not require an account, so we hold no name, email address or password for players.
  • We do not use cookies to build a profile of you across unrelated websites ourselves.

Your Choices

The consent notice. When you first visit, you are asked about non-essential cookies. Your answer is remembered. Clearing your browser data for this site will make the notice appear again so you can change your answer.

Your browser. Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies:

  • Chrome — Settings › Privacy and security › Third-party cookies
  • Safari — Settings › Safari › Block All Cookies
  • Firefox — Settings › Privacy & Security › Cookies and Site Data
  • Edge — Settings › Cookies and site permissions

Blocking all cookies will not stop the games from running, but the cookie notice may reappear on each visit and the "Recently Played" list will not persist.

Advertising controls. You can adjust or turn off personalised Google advertising at Google Ad Settings. Turning it off does not remove advertising — it makes it less relevant.

Do Not Track. Browsers send this signal inconsistently and there is no agreed standard for honouring it, so we do not rely on it. Use the controls above instead.

Children

Masked Games is family-friendly and does not require registration. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Parents who want to limit data collection should block non-essential cookies in the browser their child uses.

Changes

If we add or remove a partner, this page is updated and the date at the top changes. Significant changes will also be reflected in the consent notice.
