You aim with the mouse, or by tapping the screen, and shoot arrows at the traitors. The task the game sets is to eliminate all of your enemies.

What it keeps asking about is timing. Its own instruction is to shoot the arrows at the right time to hit and eliminate the enemy infiltrators, which puts the moment of release ahead of everything else.
