State.io is real-time strategy stripped down to its essentials. Territories appear as dots on a map, each one generating units over time, and the entire war is fought by sending those units from one dot to another. There are no build orders and no unit types to learn — the whole game is a question of where your numbers go and when.

The tension comes from the fact that every unit you send is a unit you no longer have at home. Attacking a neighbour with everything you own can take the territory outright, but it leaves your own border thin for exactly as long as it takes an opponent to notice. Blocking and destroying enemy towers, pushing into their land and defending your own borders are all the same decision approached from different directions.

Because it plays out in real time against rival armies, the game rewards reading the board rather than reacting to it. Every action has consequences that arrive several seconds later, so the players who win are usually the ones who committed to an attack before it looked obvious.
